Hunting and Christmas

If any of you live under a rock, you may not have realized that this past weekend was the opening weekend of deer season! Now I used to really enjoy hunting season, you know back before I had kids and could actually GO hunting. Somehow, though, my husband still gets to go! Someone please explain to me why mom's lives completly change when the children are born, but dads still get to do everything they've always done?

So, this weekend I was what I lovingly refer to as a "hunting widow". Not only that, I was a single mother. I love my children with all of my heart and really enjoy getting to be with them all weekend, but I did not sign on to be a single parent. We are supposed to be partners and raise them together, but lately it feels as though I'm doing the raising and he's just playing with them occassionally. I know this isn't true, and Kyle is a wonderful dad, but sometimes I am a little bit irrational. Yes, I know he's always hunted and played golf, and played handbells at church, and did powerpoint at church, and played tennis, etc, etc, but I just thought after the kids were born he would want to be home with them....and me. Oh well, I still love him and I know this all part of being married, but I can whine just a little ....can't I?

Okay, enough of my bellyaching....I did get a lot done this weekend! Noah went to Nana and Pop's Saturday morning while Addie and I went and did some shopping! I have decided to get all my Christmas shopping done early this year, so I'm not scrambling at the last minute to find the things I want. Our first stop was Lay-Z-Boy Gallery to buy Kyle a recliner and big coctail ottoman to go in front of the couch and loveseat. I needed to buy a recliner with a pattern because all of our furniture is leather and we need some more color and texture in there. Almost two hours later, we walked out of there with our furniture on order! Addie was so good the entire time (I don't know how I've been blessed with such amazing babies!).

After that, we went to Toys R Us. Once Thanksgiving gets here, I will not step foot in that place until about February but this weekend it was very laid back and not many people there. I am happy to say I got almost everything on my list! I know I can probably save money by shopping around, but I really don't care! I wanted to get it done and not have to worry about it anymore. I will shop around all day long on the internet for bargains, but when it comes to shopping in the stores I usually buy it as soon as I see it. I still have to get an art easel for Noah and little mirror for Addie's crib, but other than that, the kids are done!!

Oh, and I had a "you know you're a mom" moment: I have been looking around for one of those remote control race cars that hits the wall and flips over. Wal-Mart is sold out online and doesn't have them in the stores and TRU doesn't even have them online. So I was looking everywhere in the store for it (the r.c. car aisle, the toddler toys, etc) I just figure they didn't carry them. Then low and behold, in the back corner of store, hidden amongnst random toys I found it! There were only 3 of them and they were even on sale for $25! So, I grabbed and put in the buggy and started whooping and hollering and doing a little happy dance! (yes, I'm sure people thought I was a little crazy) But, there is nothing like scoring that hot toy of the season for your child (even though he doesn't even care)!
